For my visual development class the assignment was pretty straightforward: Choose a story and get to work. Against my teacher's advice, I chose my own story. It was a little story I worked up over the summer. I haven't developed it very much as it's mostly on par with a basic comic book hero origin story. Long story short, she was a fantastic singer, who got tortured and raped, and turned into a schizophrenic vigilante. The first piece is the same character in her two different personae. The next three are some designs, one signature costume for combat, and a casual and formal design. The next three are a second character who is her good friend, a former female body builder, who is a functioning lunatic. I did a simple turnaround for the first and some style studies. Since I was trying to find a way to speed up my workflow, I looked at some animation styles and settled somewhere between the style of Winx Club, the Bruce Timm style, and some of my own style. The second to last piece was a male character, since everyone in my class advised me to start drawing some males. I made him as the former bodybuilder's older brother and only sane person, because I liked the idea of a Huge girl and Tiny guy relationship. The final pieces are fully rendered portraits I did for my digital paint class.
