The Odyssey - Odysseus Thumbnails/Sketches

Started a new Vis Dev project for my portfolio. Public domain stories are the easiest to create without fearing legal intervention, so I chose an old favorite from high school, The Odyssey, in a sci-fi setting.

For the new setting, I changed some elements. Now the hero Odysseus is actual a warship, commanded by a female captain bearing the same name, and his crew from the original epic are now smaller ships accompanying the Odysseus. Other iconic elements like the monsters, Scylla and Charybdis, are to be replaced by giant space-dwelling creatures and spacial anomalies. Gods are still in development.

Here are the preliminary thumbnails and sketches for Odysseus' standard costume.

Ebola

A new personal project. Based on an old practice sketch. A nice busty pirate girl taking a swing along the sails of an under attack ship. Still not sure how I came to name her after one of the deadliest diseases on Earth.

Illustration 4 - BURN

My final illustration for Illustration 4. This one is based on a Nine Inch Nails song. I decided to take the usually abstract Burn everything lyric a little more literally. So now we have a punk girl who appears to have leveled an entire city, along with a nuclear reactor, with just a zippo lighter!

Illustration 4 - The Snow Queen

A piece foe the Snow Queen story. This one shows the moment when the boy meets the Snow Queen for the first time as she offers him a ride.

NOT fan art for Frozen, even though that's also based on the fairy tale.

Illustration 4 - Red Riding Hood

This is a piece for Roald Dahl's version of the famous fairy tale. In this version, just as the wolf is about to eat Red, she whips out a gun and shoots him dead. Later she's seen wearing a lovely wolf skin fur coat instead of her iconic Red Riding Hood.

Vis Dev - Springheel Jack

A visual development project for my Portfolio Prep class, based on a character I wrote for my Writing for Comics story.

Jacqueline Amalia, a.k.a. Springheel Jack for her unique Tesla Magnetic boots which allow her to jump to incredible heights (not quite Superman's "Leap tall buildings in a single bound", but pretty high) and give her some ability to cling to metal surfaces. Here I was exploring some costume designs based on how she was written in the story, while also making it look somewhat functional and pragmatic.
